Plot Synopsis:
Maria is a sweet young postulant whose love of freedom makes it obvious to her superiors that she is not suited for religious life. Thus, she is sent off to be the governess to Captain von Trapp's seven troublesome children. Unlike previous governesses, Maria becomes friends with the children due to their mutual love of music. Soon, even the strict Captain begins to admire Maria. Eventually, the Captain and Maria fall in love and are married. Unfortunately, when the Nazis invade their homeland, Austria, the whole family is forced to flee over the alps to escape.

Director's Notes:
It was time to revive a show from the archives of ole SHS. Since "The Sound of Music" was first performed twenty years ago, 1972, we felt this would be the perfect show. And it was! Maria, Captain VonTrapp and the 7 children portrayed by Rebecca Blose, Ed Burnard, Kelly Snell, Jennifer Bernard, Brendan McManus, Sarah Frederick, Ryan Williams, Christy Williams, Zandra Peters respectively, were great! The 50 plus nuns, instructed by Sister Rita Monaghan, the beautiful stained glass windows, the matching costumes, the dances certainly filled the theatre with the sounds of music and more. Special tribute was paid to a former musical director who started it all at Northern Lehigh, Mrs. Edith Roeder. She directed "The Sound of Music" in 1972 and was honored closing night by this cast, twenty years later.
