Plot Synopsis:
The plot brings a pair of New York sophisticates, Dan and Ruth, into the Amish country of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, to settle a piece of property owned by Dan's family. While there, they become involved with the local villagers, including an Amish girl who wants to marry a young man her own age despite the fact that her father hopes to marry her off to a much older farmer, and an even younger Amish girl who falls into puppy love with Dan. Her attentions, however, only serve to clarify to Dan how much he really likes Ruth, and all eventually ends happily.

Production Notes:
Centered around the Amish folk in Pennsylvania Dutch Country, the cast of "Plain & Fancy" had absolutely no problem donning the accent, quaint customs, or stern morals of these people since most of the cast members have been exposed to the Penna. Dutch influence all of their lives.
Perhaps the most memorable situation of this show which opened on April 6, 1979, was the night Mr. & Mrs. Albert Hague were in attendance. Albert Hague wrote the music for the original show on Broadway. Mrs. Albert Hague is the former Renee Orkin of Slatington. Perhaps Albert Hague is better known to many of us as Prof. Shorofsky on the TV series "Fame." Nevertheless, it certainly was exciting to have these celebrities in our audience. Directed by George Fennell with set design by Rick Eckhart, it was plain to see the show's success.
