West Side Story (1993)
Plot Synopsis:
On the mean streets of New York City, two gangs are in a long-lasting duel. The Sharks, a Puerto Rican gang, grapple with the difficulties of assimilating into American society. The Jets, the "American" gang, want to resist newcomers entering their territory. In the midst of this rivalry, a Jet, Tony, falls in love with a beautiful Sharks' girl, Maria. After a fight between the Jets and the Sharks, Tony ends up killing Maria's brother, Bernardo. Bitter over losing Maria's love and the death of Bernardo, Maria's Puerto Rican suitor, Chino, shoots Tony dead.

Director's Notes:
For years, people suggested the musical "West Side Story." For years, we thought about it. But you needed more than the usual men. This was the year. We had them. So we tried it. Thank to the extraordinary talents of our cast and production staff, we did it successfully. It was by far the most difficult show we've attempted in 23 years. The Jets, with their leader, Matt Frederick and the Sharks, with their leader Eric Redline rumbled every night to a receptive audience. Suzanne Stein, Marcus DeMichele, Keith Frantz, Jamie McMullen, and Misty Guedes worked very hard and like the rest of the cast, were a pleasure to work with. The music was tough, but Ardith Steckel and the orchestra made it easy for the rest of us. It was also the first time we attempted splitting the performances into two weekends. It worked.
