1996 - Li'l Abner
Li'l Abner (1996)

Plot Synopsis:
Based on Al Capp's cartoon characters, this "hillbilly nonsense" musical is centred around Dogpatch, U.S.A. In this town, drinking Kickapoo Joy Juice, fishing, and the Sadie Hawkins Day Dance are everyone's main concern. This is, of course, until the government conducts a study that deems Dogpatch to be an unnecessary place, to be evacuated so that the area can be used for atomic testing. So it's up to Li'l Abner and the rest of the citizens of Dogpatch to show that their little town is a "necessary" place after all, despite the interference of General Bullmoose and his girlfriend.

Director's Notes:
The 26th season unfolds and the tradition of the Northern Lehigh School District Little Theater continues. This is made possible by my hard working staff, parents, volunteers, and the students in the Senior and Junior High Schools, who came together with great enthusiasm to continue the Little Theater tradition.
This year we are fortunate to have many talented students returning; and for this, we wish to thank our previous Director and Staff for developing and installing in these students a direction that has been so positive.
As your new director, I have chosen the musical comedy Li'l Abner. I have selected this musical because it has not been done as a revival in New York and hasn't been done in our own theater. I knew the students would also love it, as the musical calls for 68 characters in addition to the chorus, giving an opportunity for many talented students to perform.
Li'l Abner's lead parts are extremely crucial to the success of the show, with at least one lead being in almost every scene. If one lead would become ill, the show would be in jeopardy. For this reason, I have instituted understudies for Li'l Abner, Daisy Mae, and the Senator. These students will perform on Sunday, May 5, during the matinee performance.
On Saturday evening, May 11, the final scene, the two understudies will join the regular actors on stage for the marriage and take their bows together as Abner and Daisy Mae. It's a great scene... Don't miss it!!!
