Grease

Plot Synopsis:

It's 1959 and Rydell high is filled with rebellious, thrill-loving students. In the midst of this scene, Sandy Dumbrowski enters as the new girl in school. It turns out that she and the leader of the Burger Palace Boys gang, Danny Zuko, have had a brief love affair the summer before. While Sandy stresses to her new classmates the emotional attachment she and Danny had, Danny stresses the physical aspects of their relationship. As the show goes on, the students at Rydell High have to deal with love, gang violence, teen pregnancy, and friendship.

Director's Notes:

I would like to welcome all relatives, friends, administration, and staff to the Northern Lehigh Little Theatre. This year's production of "Grease" marks the twenty-eighth anniversary of musicals to be presented in the Northern Lehigh (Slatington) School District.

Every show has a good plot. Sometimes the plot is repeated from one piece of work to another. For example, boy meets girl. Boy falls in love with girl. Boy angers girl. Boy loses girl. Boy wins girl back. Sound familiar? This is one of the classic plots of the American Musical. Now, take this plot, add a dose of teenage rebellion, some fond high school memories, and a lot of good old rock n' roll and you have "Grease."

As the musical begins, you, a member of Rydell High School's class of 1959, will be transported back in time to your tenth class reunion. It is here where you will be reacquainted with your English teacher, Miss Lynch, and your fellow classmates, and will recall all the fond memories of your senior year. I hope you remember the Rydell Alma Mater. If you do forget the words, please see the inside cover of your program. Miss Lynch will be quite upset if you do not sing along.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of the people who have sacrificed their time, efforts, and talents in order to make this show possible. To my wife, Nina, and my daughters, Bronwyn and Olivia, the staff of Grease, the wonderful students of the cast and crew, the parents (including my own), and you, for your constant support of fundraisers and ticket sales.

Enjoy the show!
