Our Mission

The mission of the Northern Lehigh School District is to provide a safe school climate where everyone is valued, respected, and included.

Our community promotes a collaborative and supportive learning culture that meets students at their level and challenges all to learn and grow. We prepare and motivate our students for their future endeavors teaching them essential skills, civic responsibility, and an appreciation for life-long learning. We encourage pride in ourselves, schools, and community.

Arrival & Dismissal Procedures

Student Arrival - Students are allowed in the front lobby after 8:10 am. The school does not accept responsibility for students who arrive at school prior to 8:10 am. Students arriving prior to 8:10 must be accompanied by an adult and will need to wait outside. Students enter the building through the doors outside of the gymnasium. These doors are monitored by the staff who are outside in front of the building, and staff who will be located inside the building near the door as students enter as well. All visitors are directed to the main entrance of the building and asked to buzz into the building for identification purposes. Parents should drop students off in front of the building curbside so that we are reducing the risk of an accident from a car pulling out from drop off. The area for student drop is represented in the photo below in yellow. Parents can also drop students in the lower parking lot and walk them up the stairs. Students are asked to follow the green arrow in the picture below and walk up the ramp, down the walkway and enter the building outside of the gymnasium to the left of the main entrance. There is an overhang located there for walking students to stand under if they are early and there is inclement weather. (Attach the photo if possible. If not, please let me know and I will adjust this message.)

Late Arrivals - Students who arrive at school on or after 8:20 am will be marked Tardy. Please be aware that illegal tardiness and absences are subject to disciplinary action.

Early Release of Students - Parents wishing to pick up students during the school day must report to the office and sign out the student (for your child's protection we will ask to see identification, such as a driver's license). The office secretary will phone your child's classroom and the student will report to the office.

Parking & Pick-up - Parents may pick up students in front of the building ONLY. Please encourage your child to obey the rules and follow the directions of the crossing guards to ensure their safety.

Dismissal - Walkers are dismissed at 2:40 pm. Bused students are dismissed shortly after.

Walkers - Parents picking up their children at the end of the day should park in the lower parking lot, walk up the steps, and wait at the crosswalk for their children. Children should not walk unsupervised in the parking lot for safety reasons due to traffic congestion.

Six Day Schedule - Our elementary school operates on a six day schedule. In the event that a day of school is canceled, we will not skip that school day's scheduled activities. Instead, the scheduled activities will take place the next day that school is in session.

Littering - Littering inside and/or outside of the school building or anywhere on school grounds is prohibited. Violators may be subject to disciplinary action and/or levying of fines. There is No Smoking on school property.

Security at Slatington Elementary

All doors to the school will be locked at all times. Visitors should approach the building using the main entrance and will be buzzed using our camera/intercom system. Please understand that due to security reasons, no person inside the building is permitted to open the doors for any visitor. All visitors to the school shall enter the building by the main doors and enter the main office. All visitors must sign in at the office upon arrival, stating their name, the date and time of their visit, and to which section of the building they will be going and provide a photo ID. All visitors will be given a visitor's badge which they are expected to wear while in the building. All visitors must return to the office to sign out and return their badge prior to leaving the building.

PSSA Testing 2024-2025 School Year

It is of the utmost importance that your child make every attempt to be present in school during this time. Make-up tests will be given to students who are absent during this window.

The PSSA English Language Arts test will be administered to grades 3 - 6 beginning April 21 - 25, 2025

The PSSA Math test will be administered to grades 3 - 6 beginning April 28 - May 2, 2025

The PSSA Science test will be administered to grade 4 beginning April 28 - May 2, 2025

Here are some things you can do to help your child be successful:

OPTIMIZE BRAIN POWER - Make sure your child gets plenty of rest and eats a healthy breakfast. Yogurt, cereal, and eggs are great, but dinner for breakfast can also be great. Pizza, spaghetti, and even potatoes will give the brain an extra boost!

CHALLENGE CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS - Continue to encourage your child to complete their homework every night. Children should also be reading outside of school. Research shows that children who read for 60 minutes outside of school will score remarkably higher on standardized tests.

PROVIDE PRACTICE OPPORTUNITIES - While most classrooms are already covering the sample test items in class, you can also familiarize yourself with the type of information your child will see on the PSSA. Visit the PDE website. Here, you will find sample test items for each grade level.

RELAX & REMAIN POSITIVE - Please understand that it is exhausting for our young students during this testing time. They will exert a tremendous amount of brain power and self control. Help them stay confident and committed by encouraging them to do their best. If you are nervous about their performance, be wary of transferring that concern to your child. Believe it or not, some children actually enjoy these tests! If your child does get nervous before taking tests, have them practice relaxation techniques such as, taking deep breaths, counting from 1 to 10, or closing their eyes and visualizing a happy memory.
