Plot Synopsis:
Con man Harold Hill travels to the small town of River City, Iowa to earn his fortune. He decides to convince the town that they need a boys' band and then plans to run away once the boys have paid for instruments and uniforms. He even claims to be a professor of music. His scheme is moving along perfectly until Harold falls in love with the town piano teacher, Marian. Even though she knows that he's a con man, she still loves him for the hope that he brought to the town. Harold, on the other hand, is inspired by Marian's goodness, reveals his secrets to the town and becomes an honest man.

Director's Notes:
Good evening and welcome to the thirtieth season of musicals at the Northern Lehigh Little Theatre.
Thirty years ago our country was involved in a major military conflict, women were fighting for equality, the Brady Bunch was on prime time television, hair was long, clothing wild, computer technology was in its infant stage, and I was all but two years old! Now I know that thirty years is just a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of life, but I can't stop marveling at how our world has changed since early 1970.
Keeping this in mind, it is also comforting to know that some things never seem to change. I look to these as my security blanket in life. When problems are many and the world has me feeling down, I know where to find my security. It's the love of my family, it's in my favorite book, it's good friends, and, of course, it's music.
Music is the one thing to which I can attach the events of my life and the world. Do you recall what song was playing on the radio when you stole your first kiss? How about the song that was playing the first time you turned the radio on in the car after getting your license? Can you remember what was on the radio when they announced the assassination of president Kennedy? How about when we were told of man's successful landing on the moon?
Music is timeless and ageless, so are the wonderful Broadway shows that we bring to this community every year. Rest assured, music, in all its finest forms, will be a part of this school district for thirty times thirty years to come. Think of the possibilities we will have to make new memories to attach to it!
