Robert W. "Yogi" Edwards
Class of 1975
Yogi graduated from Northern Lehigh High School in 1975. He was President of the National Honor Society. He participated in football for 4 years with 11 interceptions in his senior year and 21 in his career. He also played varsity basketball for two years and varsity baseball for four years. He was the Captain of both the football and baseball teams. Some of his Honors and Awards include being voted MVP in baseball and football in his senior year. Yogi was 1st Team all LVL Defensive Back for three years in a row and 1st Team Wide Received during his senior year. The Bulldog football team won the LVL championship his senior year in 1974. He was voted the Team's MVP as a defensive back, and was Northern Lehigh's Scholar Athlete in football. He was also on the All-Area Team as a defensive back, Honorable Mention All-State, and a member of the Prep All-American team. Yogi continued to play football at Muhlenberg where he earned 3 Varsity Letters and led in Interceptions and Punt Return Yardage. He received the ECAC Scholar Merit Award and the Sidney G. Weikart Award given to Muhlenberg's top athlete. While obtaining 4 varsity letters in baseball in college, he earned the highest single season batting average (.472), highest career batting average, and had the most stolen bases in a game. He also has the single season and career stolen base records, single season on base percentage record (.525), single season fielding percentage record (1,000), and career toughest to strike out per at bat record. These are just a few of his achievements. These efforts allowed him to receive All-MAC, All-ECAC, and All-American Honors. Yogi graduated in 1979 with a BS in Business Administration. He was elected into the Muhlenberg College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000. In 2010, Yogi was also elected into the Lehigh Valley Recreational Sports Hall of Fame for his contributions to the Coplay-American Legion Baseball Program.
Cathy Frohnheiser
Class of 1990
Cathy Frohnheiser graduated from Northern Lehigh High School in 1990 as a member of the National Honor Society. Cathy excelled as a member of the girls basketball and softball teams for four years and participated in field hockey for two years. As a member of the girls varsity basketball team from 1987 to 1990 she received several MVP, offensive and all tournament team awards. Cathy still holds the single season records for field goals made and points in a season (633 pts.) She is also the 4th All Time Leading Scorer with 1,216 pts. Cathy's softball statistics include a .471 career batting average with 117 hits, 11 home runs, 95 RBI's, 14 doubles, and 16 triples to help lead the girls varsity softball team capture two District 11 runner-ups and the 1988 State Championship. Cathy participated for two years in both All Centennial League Basketball and Softball. In 1990 she was named NLHS Female Athlete of the Year. Cathy continued her academic and athletic careers in South Carolina where she received a scholarship from Furman University to play softball. In 1993 she set NCAA Division I records with 25 doubles and a 42 game hitting streak that still stands unbroken. Cathy Led the NCAA with 65 RBI's. She also set Furman single season records with .492 batting average, .855 slugging percentage, .533 on-base percentage, 88 hits, 65 RBI's, 25 doubles, and 8 triples. She was the first-ever Southern Conference Softball Player of the Year in 1994, All-South Region in 1991, 1993, and 1994 and led Furman to first-ever Southern Conference Title in 1994. Cathy was Furman's MVP in 1993 and 1994. She became Furman's only softball player to ever earn NCAA Division I First Team ALL-AMERICAN in 1993. In 1993 Cathy also earned the Furman University Edna Hartness Female Athlete of the Year. In 1994 she received the overall Furman University Athlete of the Year and had the honor of having her jersey number retired. Cathy played the inaugural year for the Women's Professional Fastpitch in 1995 and turned down a contract to continue to play so she could further her academic career. Cathy earned both a Bachelors and Masters Degree In Health and Exercise Science from Furman University. In 1999 Cathy was inducted into the Furman University Athletic Hall of Fame. Following her passion of health and wellness, Cathy became an NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist and opened her own personal training studio, Ideal Fitness, Inc. Cathy currently resides in Taylors, SC.
Bruce Kemmerer
Class of 1952 (Accepted by son Bruce Kemmerer)
Bruce graduated from Slatington High School in 1952. He was a member of the Varsity Football Team for four years. His senior year as co-captain of the team, he made five touchdowns against Northampton earning the first victory in 24 years. He was a member of the All Lehigh Valley League Team. He played Varsity Baseball and JV and Varsity Basketball for four years. He was a member of the Lehigh Valley Gymnastic team, a member of the National Honor Society, and President of Student Council. He served in the Armed Forces before graduating with a BS Degree from East Stroudsburg University in Health and Physical Education. He retired from Northwestern Lehigh High School in 1989 after 30 years of service.
Kristin (Kern) Rose
Class of 1996
Kristin graduated from Northern Lehigh High School in 1996 and was Co-Valedictorian of her graduation class. Kristin played field hockey for three years, basketball for three years, and softball for three years where she was a member of the 1996 PIAA Softball State Champion Team. She attended the University of Delaware, where she also played on the softball team, and graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering and a minor in mathematics. Kristin received her Master's degree in Material Science & Engineering in 2006, also from the University of Delaware.
Since graduating from the University of Delaware in 2000, Kristin has been working for a military contracting company, SURVICE Engineering Co. in Belcamp, MD, where she is a team leader for the effectiveness evaluation of chemical, biological, and radiological related military systems. While working at SURVICE Engineering, Kristin has had articles published in the Summer 2004 Edition of Aircraft Survivability and was the 2006 recipient of the International Test & Evaluation Association's (ITEA) Young T&E Professional Award. Kristin spent three seasons coaching a girls' softball team at Canal Little League from 2007 to 2009. Kristin currently resides in Middletown, DE with her husband, Kevin, and two children, Makenna and Dominic.
1953-1954 Iron Men Team
This team won both the Lehigh Valley League and District 11 titles during the 1953-1954 season. Slatington High School had never finished on top of District 11 since it was organized in 1931. The borough was one big "Open House" after Slatington defeated Allentown High School 63-56 in the District 11 playoff game outplaying the Canaries in every direction, defense, long shooting, and general floor work. A estimated 3,000 residents jammed the intersection of Main and Church streets to welcome the team home. They then defeated St. Clair High School in a grueling overtime battle that ended by a score of 76-73 in front of over 7,000 fans from both schools who were treated to a thrilling test of court skills. It was agreed upon at the time that the Slaters were a beautifully balanced crew with everybody getting into the act when the gang got rolling. No one man dominated the picture, and opponents went crazy trying to figure out who to stop because there were four others who would shoot well. The members of the Ironmen Basketball Team 1953-1954 include: Robert Schirmacher, Richard Nissen, Roy Hankee, Merrill Eckhart, Dr. Edward Torbey, Raymond Follweiler, Richard Frantz, Manager Lee Kreidler, Steven Kern, Richard Jones (Deceased), Maurice Schleicher (Deceased), George Dilliard (Deceased), Edward Welliver (Deceased), Manager Wallace Kern(Deceased), Head Coach Lloyd Williams (Deceased), and Assistant Coach Fred Snyder (Deceased).
Lloyd Williams
1907-1992 (Accepted by grandson Marty Williams)
Lloyd Williams (1907–1992) taught at Slatington High School for 37 years before retiring in 1972. He coached basketball, track, baseball, and football at Slatington High School from 1934–1966 but is best known as coach of the High School "Iron Men" Basketball Team. This team won the League title in 52-53 and the League and District Championships in 1953-54. He was named "Man of the Year" by Slatington Rotary Club in 1954. In 1986, he was inducted into the Lehigh Valley Basketball Hall of Fame. Lloyd ran the Slatington playground program and was involved with the pinewood derby. Lloyd received his Bachelor's Degree from East Stroudsburg in 1934 and his Masters Degree from NYU in 1946. Lloyd's wife, Ruth, and son, Ronald, are deceased. His grandson Jackson is in grad school at Eastman School of Music where he studies opera performance, and his other grandson, Marty, just graduated from Drexel and works as a traffic engineer. The sports genes did flame within Lloyd's grandsons in high school— high jumping and a black belt in Tae Kwon Do for Jackson, and soccer and hurdling for Marty.
