National Honor Society

  • The National Honor Society is an honorary society which recognizes students for outstanding qualities. Students are selected for membership into Northern Lehigh High School Chapter 502 by a faculty council. Students selected to membership must maintain a 3.5 cumulative grade point average during grades eleven and twelve and demonstrate continued service, leadership, and character.

All candidates must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 at the time of application and must be members of the Junior or Senior Class. Applicants will then complete a detailed application which must reflect the three other criteria for membership in addition to scholarship. They are leadership, service, and character. Completing the application does not guarantee one's automatic acceptance.

A Faculty Council consisting of the National Honor Society advisor and at least five faculty members will serve as a standing committee to select members and rule on continued eligibility. This council will review all applications and secure additional evaluations in the form of teacher rating sheets on each applicant. Please note that the National Honor Society advisor is not a voting member of the Faculty Council.

For selection, the Faculty Council will consider: participation in activities which show a committed involvement and foster leadership potential, personal growth, and positive character traits. All will be viewed with preference in the selection process.

All four qualities of the National Honor Society must be fulfilled in order to be selected: Scholarship-Maintain a 3.5 grade average. This may include holding officer positions in a club or a class, being a newspaper editor, being the captain of an athletic team, or any other position that demonstrates your leadership qualities. Character-Behave responsibly in a manner which demonstrates honesty, courtesy, fairness, tolerance, cooperativeness, and other positive personal qualities.
